Our Vets

Drs. Jim and Kay Havenga took over the practice in the early '80s. They have 4 children, now living in various parts of the world, and can even now add grandchildren to their list of accomplishments. They are staunch environmentalists and walk or bicycle to work just about every day of the year. They enjoy spending time with their family and riding their tandem bike. Dr. Sue has worked at the Animal Clinic for 18 years. She is married to husband Mark of 23 years, and together they have 2 sons, 2 black labs, 2 cats, and a variety of chickens and fish. In her (rare) free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, going for walks, and riding her bike.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Allison Emig to our team! Dr. Allison is originally from Ionia, MI. She grew up with several pets, including dogs, cats, rabbits, fish, and even raising pigs for her FFA chapter. Dr. Allison and her husband, David, currently have a cat named Gretchen who likes to knock things off tables and dream of catching birds. In her free time, Dr. Allison likes to read, socialize with friends and family, go hiking, and try new things.

Our Support Staff

Linda has worked at the Animal Clinic for 25 years! She lives with her two cats, Puck her Lab, and husband Dick. Linda first met Dr. Jim in the '80's when she had horses and he would tend to their needs. She spends spare time reading and looking after the wildlife near her home. Originally from Jacksonville, FL, Heather has been working at the Animal Clinic for 13 years. Prior to that, she worked at Schmidt Veterinary Clinic for 8 years. She has been married to husband Josh for 14 years. They share their home with 2 dogs (1 literally from the side-of-the-road, the other a shelter dog reject) and a plethora of "foster-failure" cats. In her spare time, you can find her curled up with a book and a cat or two.

Karen grew up in and currently lives in Holland. She has been married to husband Nate for 12 years, and they recently welcomed daughter Winter into their lives. She graduated from Baker College in 2004 with her degree in Veterinary Technology and started working at the Animal Clinic in September of that year. Karen enjoys spending time with her family, the outdoors, and art. She has two cats, Hobie and Bean. Josh is a Holland native and has worked at the Animal Clinic since 2005. He has worked for several area animal shelters, vet clinics, and a stint at C-SNIP for 4 years (yeah, he gets around). After wooing wife Heather (see above) into marriage, she got even and wooed him into employment at the Animal Clinic. These days, Josh spends his spare time honing his web design skills and trying to find motivation to exercise.

Here's Rachel's story in the first person!:
I was born and raised in Holland, Michigan. I've been married for 2 years to my husband, Daniel. We have one dog, Marston, who we spoil terribly. When not with Marston, I enjoy spending time with my mom, dad, and two sisters. We've been clients at the Animal Clinic for many years!
Sarah recently graduated as Salutatorian from West Ottawa High School and completed the Agriculture and Animal Science program at the Careerline Tech Center. She is excited to attend Hope College as a pre-vet student before beginning graduate school in order to study veterinary medicine. She enjoys spending time outside with friends and family, kayaking, and reading. She also keeps busy with her horse, Jaxsen and golden retriever, Jess.
